This is the perfect activity to do in La Fortuna for those who want to challenge themselves but also expereince a fun and informative tour that most miss – it’s one of the most unique things to do in La Fortuna! 2. Our guide Albert was so enthusiastic and passionate about Costa Rica. We did the Venado Cave tour with Eco Terra Costa Rica and cannot recommend these guys enough. Although a little intimidating, it was so much fun! The coolest part of the tour was crawling through a tunnel half-filled with water. We even got to see a Stalagmite over 6 million years old! However, push through and try them all – you won’t regret it!Īll up, we spent around 45 minutes underground and learned all about the animals that call the caves home. However, with your experienced guide, you’ll feel really safe, and if one part seems too scary, there is always an option to skip it. The entrances to the smaller caverns are small, and if I’m being honest, it’s a little scary at first. With a small river below your feet, you’ll navigate a large main cavern while exploring smaller caverns/rooms within the cave. Here is where the fun really starts as you enter the underground world below La Fortuna and Arenal. Afterward, it’s time to begin the tour by walking to the entrance o the cave. The tour involves a short drive out to Venado Caves, where you’ll listen to a brief and safety talk, as well as get suited up with your boots, hard hat, and headlamp. I’ve included it first on this list to highlight this unique adventure I never thought I’d get to enjoy in Costa Rica.
